Kuraray goes Amazon: water-soluble 3D printing filament now available online

Hattersheim, June 2019. Kuraray, a world-leading manufacturer of speciality chemicals, is now selling its water-soluble 3D printing filament Mowiflex 3D 2000 via the online B2B marketplace Amazon Business. By using this new sales channel, Kuraray aims to make the unique benefits of this high-quality printing filament available to a broader target group. Mowiflex 3D 2000 is a polymer compound based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). It can be used to produce support structures for complex, filigree shapes and objects with overhanging elements. At the end of the printing process, the support material can be washed off easily in water. Amazon Business customers can now order this filament conveniently online with just a few clicks.

State-of-the-art 3D printing technologies are now used in many fields. Applications go well beyond the production of prototypes: these technologies now facilitate completely new business models such as the production of personalized products, from single items to top-quality serial production. High-quality printing materials are therefore vital. “Kuraray markets Mowiflex 3D 2000, a 3D printing filament that makes the production of very demanding shapes easy,” says Heiko Mack, Head of Poval Business at Kuraray. “When it is used as a water-soluble support material, this product allows the printing of, for example, very delicate shapes and movable parts, so there are virtually no limits to creativity. We therefore want to make Mowiflex 3D 2000 available to a wider range of professional users of 3D printing via Amazon Business.”

Order professional printing filaments online
Kuraray's Mowiflex 3D 2000 printing filament is now available online via the Amazon Business marketplace in 0.5 kg rolls with diameters of 1.75 millimetres and 2.85 millimetres. “Business customers in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK can now order Mowiflex 3D 2000 conveniently from Amazon Business with just a few clicks,” says Heiko Mack. “Order fulfilment is performed directly by our logistics team. And experts at Kuraray are happy to deal with technical questions and suggestions received by phone, email or using the contact form.” Via Amazon, speciality chemicals producer Kuraray is offering its customers an additional way to order this product. Until now, this support filament was only available through conventional sales channels.

Support structures that can be washed off - for perfect results
In 3D printing processes such as fused filament fabrication, the printing material is applied in layers. In other words, the object is built up layer by layer. For overhanging and extremely filigree parts, the printed product needs to be stabilized with the aid of a support structure during printing. Mowiflex 3D 2000 has excellent printing properties, allowing production of precision support structures. Since the polymer compound is soluble in water, the material can be washed off easily at the end of the printing process and does not leave any contact marks on the printed object. That greatly reduces post-processing. And there is another benefit: the dissolved PVA material is biodegradable, allowing simple and environmentally compatible disposal via the wastewater system. That is confirmed, for example, by the OK biodegradable water certificate from TÜV Austria.

“The outstanding properties of Mowiflex 3D 2000 are a response to the rising demands made on materials for 3D printing,” says Heiko Mack. “On Amazon, we now offer professional users of 3D printing even easier access to our high-performance printing filament. In this way, we enable applications for markets where 3D printing has become established as a new production method.”
