Kuraray Poval™ L grades are polyvinyl alcohols with a low degree of hydrolysis. Despite this, they are completely water-soluble. At 70-80 mol% hydrolysis, viscosity in a 4% aqueous solution ranges from 5 mPas to 8 mPas. These products are very effective as protective colloids in PVC suspension polymerisation.
Kuraray Poval™ L grades are polyvinyl alcohols with a very low degree of hydrolysis, so they dissolve completely in water. Kuraray Poval™ L grades are therefore excellent primary suspending agents in vinyl chloride suspension polymerization. These PVOH products regulate grain formation during production, resulting in improved PVC properties such as more uniform structure, morphology and particle size distribution.
Another advantage of Kuraray Poval™ L grades is their particularly low viscosity. With 70-80 mol% hydrolysis, the viscosity of these Kuraray polymers ranges from 5 mPas to 8 mPas (measured in a 4% aqueous solution). These PVOH polymers are easy to remove, which helps reduce production waste and makes production processes more efficient. For use as a secondary dispersing agent, Kuraray offers PVC producers Kuraray Poval™ LM grades.
