KURARAY POVAL™ FOR TEXTILE SIZING


The textile manufacture of spun yarn, which has grown based upon cotton, has a long history, and starch was used as a warp size from its beginning. As the use of polyester and polyester cotton yarn has increased, so have the demands on textile size. The need for productivity and quality has justified the higher cost of PVOH compared to starch. As weavers get used to the advantages of PVOH, it has become common to use PVOH on cotton yarns, with or without starch in the size.

KURARAY POVAL™ OBA CARRIER AND CO-BINDER FOR COATED PAPER AND BOARD


Paper and board are coated in order to improve the printability. A pigment coating increases the smoothness and reduces the porosity of the paper and board which influences ink absorption. When printing on a coated paper the ink stays more on the surface of the paper giving a higher print gloss and a more brilliant and more detailed print. The coating colors consist of pigments like clay and calcium carbonate, latex and additives. The additives are crosslinkers to increase wet strength, optical brightning agents (OBA) to increase whiteness and co-binders to give strength, water retention and viscosity to name a few.

KURARAY POVAL™ OIL AND GAS APPLICATIONS


KURARAY POVAL™ resin, when mixed with cement powder, water, dispersant and defoamer, will prevent fluid loss to the formation in cementing operations. KURARAY POVAL™ is an excellent binder, reduces fluid loss, reduces water production in the cementing process, and is compatible with other cement additives. It contributes to cost savings by enabling fast and cost-efficient oil well construction and has shown no retardation effect on the cement setting time.

KURARAY POVAL™ LV-grades have been specially designed for cosmetic and personal care applications. For these grades we have compiled adapted regulatory brochures/ dossiers and give statements on: Nanomaterials, Heavy metals, Micro-plastics, Fragrances, Methanol, Animal testing and Biodegradation. The KURARAY POVAL™ LV-grades are produced under GMP conditions and have a specified Methanol (MeOH) content below 0,3% ex Germany and even below 0.1% ex Japan.

EXCEVAL™ – A FLUORINE FREE, BIODEGRADABLE AND REPULPABLE BARRIER POLYMER


Plastic packaging is a big generator of waste and only a small part of this waste is recycled. Increasing consumer awareness regarding plastic pollution on land and sea has pushed more and more governments to put bans on plastic. Besides plastics the use of fluorinated polymers in food packaging is also under discussion. Brand owners are following this closely and they are looking to replace plastic packaging and fluorinated polymers with more sustainable packaging options.

KURARAY POVAL™ FOR SUSPENSION PVC


Kuraray has much expertise in the use of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA or PVOH) based suspending agents for the needs of PVC manufacturers. In this application, polyvinyl alcohol is used as a protective colloid for the polymerisation of PVC. Vinyl chloride monomer is suspended in water by means of stirring, in combination with a suspending agent to allow the polymerisation reaction to proceed. The physical properties of the resulting PVC, including size, shape of the grains and bulk density, are directly related to the grain forming process during polymerisation.
